The primary responsibility of the Dental Assistant is to enhance the effectiveness of clinicians by delivering the Perfect Patient Experience (PPE), fostering a Patient for Life (PFL). Dental assistants carry out a diverse range of patient care, office management, and laboratory tasks. This role involves preparing patients for oral examinations and supporting dental professionals during treatments for the teeth, mouth, and gums. Collaboration with co-workers, including specialty dental assistants, patients, and front office staff, is crucial, as sharing ideas constructively and positively contributes to the overall team success. An effective dental assistant practices active listening, fulfills commitments, keeps others informed about work progress, and addresses challenges productively to find practical solutions.
Specialty Dental Assistants: For those assigned to specialty areas such as Endodontics, Oral Surgery, Orthodontics, Periodontics, or Pediatrics, additional training may be required, and the primary focus will be supporting clinicians within that specialty.
Responsibilities:
- Execute functions in accordance with the applicable state’s Dental Auxiliaries Table of Permitted Duties.
- Engage actively in the PPE by promoting optimal treatment while addressing each patient’s individual needs and concerns.
- Escort patients to and from the front desk and introduce them to team members when appropriate.
- Collaborate with front and back office teams to ensure the orthodontists’ schedules run smoothly.
- Maintain a clean, sterile, and welcoming environment.
- Sterilize and disinfect instruments and equipment, and clean each operatory in compliance with state infection control regulations.
- Prepare patients for treatments and assist the dentist, thereby facilitating efficient and quality dental care.
- Under the clinician’s guidance, complete radiographs and intra-oral images of patients promptly.
- Prepare tray setups for dental procedures and ensure adequate supply levels in each operatory, replenishing supplies as necessary.
- Keep the patients’ mouths dry and clear utilizing suction or other devices.
- Instruct patients on postoperative and general oral health care as directed by the clinician.
- Accurately record patient charting and clinician notes in the digital patient chart.
- Support patient care by presenting treatment records, consents, and health histories to the clinician before treatment.
- Ensure equipment is maintained per manufacturer guidelines.
- Work closely with the Lead Dental Assistant to guarantee adequate clinical supplies are available.
- Leverage technology by learning how to operate equipment and providing explanations or demonstrations to others.
- Participate in daily morning huddles, monthly team meetings, and any additional meetings as required.

Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED, along with specified training as required for state certification, licensure, or registration.
- Certificates/Licenses/Registrations as mandated by the applicable state.
- Specialty Dental Assistants must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and automobile insurance, verified through a background check and motor vehicle record check at hire.
- Specialty Dental Assistants are required to travel to multiple offices as needed, and reliable transportation is essential. In the absence of a valid driver’s license, alternative reliable transportation must be available to ensure timely travel.
Preferred:
- One-year certificate from an accredited college or technical school, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
