Job description:

A steel manufacturer and miller located south of Detroit is seeking a highly experienced Senior-Level Maintenance/Melt Shop Manager.

Job Summary:
The Maintenance Manager will oversee the mechanical and electrical maintenance of all equipment within a designated area or department, including modifications to existing systems. This role is essential in ensuring that all maintenance activities promote operational efficiency, safety, and environmental compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage maintenance activities involving internal personnel, production teams, and external contractors.
  • Coordinate planning meetings with stakeholders to discuss new equipment installations or modifications.
  • Solicit quotations, develop installation schedules, and assist in the fabrication details for equipment modifications.
  • Ensure all proposals and quotes adhere to applicable environmental and safety regulations.
  • Review and approve equipment designs and purchases, ensuring durability, cost-effectiveness, and ease of fabrication and installation.
  • Minimize production disruptions during equipment installations or modifications, ensuring projects are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Report directly to the Department Superintendent.
  • Manage and provide direction to Routine and Improvement Facilitators (Electrical & Mechanical), the Maintenance Planner, and indirectly oversee Controls Technicians, Maintenance Turn Facilitators, and a crew of approximately 60 hourly maintenance employees.
  • Oversee workforce development, including training, performance evaluations, promotions, and disciplinary actions.
  • Establish and maintain work methods, schedules, and procedures.
  • Lead compliance efforts related to OSHA and collaborate with safety personnel to cultivate a safe working environment.
  • Provide guidance on the interpretation and application of company personnel and safety policies.
  • Develop and manage departmental maintenance budgets, including Repair & Maintenance (R&M) and Shutdown budgets.
  • Recommend capital expenditures that enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and improve production quality and volume.
  • Maintain housekeeping standards in accordance with established protocols.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree (4-year) in a relevant field is required.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in maintenance management or a related field.
  • A strong background in mechanical and electrical systems, including hydraulics, pneumatics, drives, water circuitry, welding, electricity, and overhead cranes.
  • Proven troubleshooting skills with a commitment to minimizing downtime and enhancing operational efficiency.
