Basic Job Functions:

  • Assist in the installation and qualification of manufacturing equipment.
  • Troubleshoot daily manufacturing issues and identify or implement system improvements that contribute to achieving throughput, yield, and product performance objectives.

Education/Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, with 1 year of experience as a First Solar Manufacturing Engineering Technician II or 14 years of technical experience in a manufacturing environment; or
  • Associate’s degree in a technical discipline with at least 1 year of experience as a First Solar Manufacturing Engineering Technician II or a minimum of 5 years of technical experience in a manufacturing setting; or
  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline with 1 year as a First Solar Manufacturing Engineering Technician II or at least 2 years of technical experience in a manufacturing setting.

Required Skills/Competencies:

  • A commitment to safety first.
  • Exceptional troubleshooting and problem-solving skills within the manufacturing line.
  • Proficiency in electrical/electronic and mechanical systems.
  • Ability to respond effectively to SPC alarms to regain control of processes.
  • Capability to lead and execute equipment and process improvement projects.

  • Proven proficiency in utilizing statistical tools for data analysis and actionable recommendations.
  • Demonstrated experience in training operators, technicians, and new engineers.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Lead and support problem-solving initiatives for sporadic events and long-term systemic equipment and process challenges.
  • Develop and implement safety improvement projects.
  • Support Engineering ETA trial production runs.
  • Aid in the creation and development of ETAs, CMS projects, documentation, and related ECRETS.
  • Address and resolve day-to-day production, equipment, and process issues.
  • Identify and execute yield and product performance enhancements; devise methods for analyzing yield excursions.
  • Respond to SPC process control alarms to restore process stability.
  • Conduct planned process experiments, collecting data for analysis and reporting results.
  • Gather data regarding daily tool performance and associated product metrics.
  • Support the operation of pilot-line equipment to establish new processes.
  • Oversee the transition of new equipment and processes through startup, qualification, and implementation phases.
  • Develop and update internal documentation, including drawings, standard operating procedures, and process specifications.
  • Collaborate with internal associates and supplier representatives as necessary to complete assigned projects.
  • Attain a comprehensive understanding of processes, equipment, and support systems in the assigned area.
  • Provide training for production associates.
  • Maintain effective communication with production associates and manufacturing engineers.
  • Dispose of non-conforming products in accordance with established criteria (NCP).
  • Adhere to all safety procedures and maintain good housekeeping standards.
  • Ensure proper disposal of waste materials in designated containers.
  • Keep hazardous waste containers closed, except when adding or removing waste.
  • Ensure satellite accumulation containers remain in specified locations.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Travel:

  • Estimated travel requirement is 5% – 10%.

Estimated Salary Range:

  • $29.33 – $41.83 per hour.

U.S. Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit, stand, or walk short distances for up to 12 hours per day.
  • Frequent climbing of stairs.
  • Occasional lifting of up to 58 pounds, with frequent lifting of up to 37 pounds.
  • Occasional pushing or pulling up to 27 pounds of force, with frequent pushing or pulling of up to 10 pounds of force.
  • Regular use of hands for grasping, lifting, handling, carrying, or feeling objects.
  • Vision requirements include 20/40 vision in each eye (with or without correction) and the ability to distinguish between red, yellow, and green.

  • Compliance with all safety standards and procedures is mandatory.
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) is required, including but not limited to steel-toed shoes, cut-resistant gloves, jackets, aprons, safety glasses, and hearing protection.
