Position Details:
– Hourly wage of $27.
– Full-time company driver position with a schedule from Monday to Friday, including a 4-5 day workweek.
– Dispatch hours range from 2 PM to 7 PM.
Position Purpose:
Food and food service delivery drivers play a crucial role in the nation’s food supply chain. Our drivers ensure that customers receive their products on time and in excellent condition, serving as the face of our company and fostering long-term customer relationships.
The Hourly CDL-A Driver is accountable for operating a tractor-trailer or straight truck on both intrastate and interstate local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight drive-and-drop routes. This role entails delivering and unloading food and related products safely and punctually, adhering to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. Effective communication with customers, vendors, and colleagues is essential to ensure timely and accurate responses to inquiries. The driver will also collaborate as a team member within the department and organization, performing any assigned duties to best serve the company.
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
– Conducting all necessary safety checks (i.e., pre/post trip) and inspecting the tractor, truck, and trailer in compliance with DOT regulations; addressing any safety issues as needed and reporting required repairs.
– Adhering to all DOT regulations and company driving safety guidelines and policies.
– Promptly reporting safety hazards and ensuring trailers are loaded and secured correctly.
– Verifying counts of loaded items against customer invoices, ensuring all paperwork associated with freight is completed accurately and legibly.
– Maneuvering the tractor to the loading dock and attaching preloaded trailers as necessary.
– Driving and delivering customer orders according to a predetermined route schedule; unloading products and transporting items to designated customer storage areas.
– Conducting damage control checks on items; scanning and informing supervisors about items that need to be removed according to company policy. Verifying deliveries with customers and obtaining proper signatures. Collecting payments when necessary (cash or checks).
– Loading customer returns onto the trailer and securing the trailer doors. Ensuring that all equipment, including the tractor and trailer, is secured.
– Unloading damaged goods and customer returns, completing relevant paperwork, and ensuring that trailers are cleared of equipment and trash as required.
– Maintaining a daily record of hours of service and logging entries in accordance with Federal DOT, state, and company guidelines.
– Performing general housekeeping duties within the tractor, loading dock area, and trailers. Before the end of each shift, securing all equipment and completing necessary paperwork.
– Other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
– High School Diploma/GED or equivalent.
– A minimum of 6 months of commercial driving experience.
– Valid CDL-A license.
– Compliance with all State licensing and certification requirements (where applicable).
– Clean Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) for the past 3 years.
– Successful completion of a post-offer drug test and criminal background check.
– Passing a road test.
– Valid current DOT Health Card or the ability to secure one.
– Capable of lifting and utilizing a two-wheeler, lift gate, and/or other equipment to move and stack product cases or freight of varying sizes and weights throughout the shift, generally ranging from 10-35 pounds and up to 60-90 pounds, depending on location.
Preferred Qualifications:
– High School Diploma/GED or equivalent.
– Over 1 year of experience in the foodservice distribution industry.
– Familiarity with onboard computer and electronic log systems (e.g., PeopleNet).
– Experience with hand-held point of delivery scanning systems (e.g., POD).
– Background in customer service-related roles.
